In Uttar Pradesh, water hyacinth (Jalkumbhi) is seen in abundance in almost every big lakes to household ponds in villages. For a long time, the aquatic plant was considered only as a waste and was either cleared up or left unused. In some villages, which are poor people near the pound, in some families, products used at home are made from water hyacinth in a traditional way, but this art & craft did not reach the outside world.

Pahal Gramin Seva Samiti conducts water hyacinth craft training. In which the women of the village come in large number and learn how to make daily product from water hyacinth. In the training, she also learns to color the prepared leaves and stem of water hyacinth. Women learn mats, kitchen products, hats, doormates, food grains containers from Jalakumbh.

After training, these goods are sold in the local market or in the local product fair, the product is sold by setting up a stall. Some women also start small business by forming a group and the products made reach the country and the world.
